The classic way of treatment planning by telling the patients what need, is not working well. A better approach is to show, don’t tell. Digital photography has allowed us to create a future outcome picture and motivate the patient to accept the needed treatment. Adding the 3D scanned image of the teeth and bite enhances the experience of the patient and makes it easier to understand the problems presented. The goal of the 3D digital data acquisition process is to create a virtual patient model. This can be used for diagnosis, co-diagnosis, objective long-term record, treatment planning, impressions of the dental arches for treatment, occlusal records, and treatment outcomes analysis. The added direct cost and time spent may appear daunting, but the course will help the participants understand the real ROI.
